Yesterday I spent my "free time" writing the outline to Nedge 2 and
organizing the major plot points in my mind for the book. I have a theme
running through my head as I write, so we'll see how that turns out.
I
have committed to writing at least 800 words per day. That works out to
about 2 to 3 pages per day and about 48,000 words for the summer (60
days, with 5 days for grace). If I stay on track I should get a full
novel out of the summer. I am sure there will be days where I only get a
few hundred, and other days I will get a few thousand, but I think this
is a good place to start. I am a work to the assignment kind-of-guy, so
I think setting a goal will help me keep on track. Maybe I'll find one
of those little trackers that I can post on my blog and note how far
I've gotten.
I honestly feel a little scared to write
this one, but I think that is just anxiety over a new start. I liken it
to the first day of school...
You are excited to start anew, but you wonder if you will be liked.
If you will be accepted.
If you will remember how to do it.
Being a teacher by day, I am reminding myself the beauty of the first day of school is there is a second day and a last day.
So, here's to first days. Fears and all.
